Young Northern Writer Award

This award of £200 is for a young writer aged 12–18. The young person can write in any creative form including prose, poetry, scriptwriting, blogging, songwriting and rap.

There is one award in this category, although up to two writers may also be highly commended.

Applications are accepted in two ways:

Through nomination from an adult working with the young person, or by application directly from the young person.

#AtoZChallenge Competition!

Hidden in the A-Z of Best Children’s Poets there are FOUR poets who don’t exist – their names are the anagrams of real poets on the list, each of whom have written a false bio and a poem for their alter-ego! Guess all four and you stand a chance of winning Apes to Zebras, An A-Z of Shape Poems by Liz Brownlee, Sue Hardy-Dawson and Roger Stevens.

At the end of the A-Z send your entries to poetryfunfactory @ gmail.com. Include your name, the answers, email address and U.K. address. The competition closes on 12 May. Judgement is final. The winner will be informed by email and the result posted here.

Live Canon Children’s Poetry Competition

Children! School teachers!  Live Canon have a Children’s Poetry Competition for young people aged 5-18 – the deadline is January 21st, 2018.

Entries are judged in four categories by school year: years 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13.

Poems can be entered by individuals, or by schools.

100 winning poems will be published in their 2018 children’s anthology and all contributors will receive a complimentary copy. The winner in each age category will receive a £50 book token. There’s also a prize for the school who send the best set of entries.
